Carolina Panthers Charities providing Cabarrus County Schools with $25,000 in program grant funding and other resources
to support success of pilot programs

The Carolina Panthers and Cabarrus County Schools (CCS) are announcing new pilot programs for Girls High School Flag Football beginning this fall.  The ten-school CCS league will also include A.L. Brown HS and Mooresville HS.  Carolina Panthers Charities is providing $25,000 in program funding, equipment, and custom Nike school uniforms to support the success of the program. 

“The Carolina Panthers are excited to partner with Cabarrus County Schools to create these important pilot Girls High School Flag Football Leagues that will provide opportunities and access to the sport of flag football for high school girls,” said Panthers Director of Community Relations Riley Fields. “We are hopeful this effort will serve as catalyst for sanctioning Girls High School Flag Football as a varsity sport in the future.”

The intramural/club-level programs are designed to allow high school girls to participate in the fast-growing sport of Girls High School Flag Football that has been sanctioned as a varsity sport in eight states across the country. Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools currently boasts a 24-team league that began in 2022.  

“Cabarrus County Schools is ecstatic to be able to partner with the Carolina Panthers in offering this pilot program opportunity for our female student athletes,” said Cabarrus County Schools Director of Athletics Bryan Tyson.

Cabarrus County Schools’ athletic directors will ​be hosting interest meetings at their schools in the near future.
