Welcome to the Mental Health & Wellness Page

Cabarrus County Schools (CCS) values the importance of overall student wellness. Wellness is much more than just physical; we believe it encompasses a student’s emotional and mental needs as well. CCS collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams to meet the social emotional needs of all students in order to provide a safe and healthy learning environment where children can succeed.

Each CCS school site has a Specialized Instructional Support Personnel (SISP) team made up of School Counselors, School Social Workers, School Psychologist, Nurses, and School Resource Officers. SISP teams work together to support the whole child. With strong communication, collaboration, and engagement, CCS SISP teams strive to do what is best for students.

School Counselors

The American School Counselor Association (ASCA) defines school counselors as mastered level trained and certified educators who design and deliver school counseling programs to improve student outcomes. School counselors are school leaders, advocates, participate in collaboration with other professionals, and promote equity for all students in order to be successful.

School Social Workers

The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) defines school social workers as mastered level mental health professionals who help connect home and school for students and families. School social workers help advocate and support the emotional well-being of children. School social workers provide mental health interventions, crisis support, and support services.

The National Association of School Psychologist (NASP) defines school psychologist as mastered level professionals who provide support in areas of academics, social, behavioral, and emotional needs for students. School psychologist work closely with different interdisciplinary teams to create safe, healthy, and supportive learning environments that encourage and strengthen the connection between home, school, and community.NASP

Mental Health Resource-Loved Ones Support Group

Are you a parent, caregiver, or ally of a survivor of child of sexual abuse? Brave Step, a local nonprofit for survivors of sexual abuse is offering loved ones  6 free virtual sessions led by a mental health professional. See the flyer attached for additional information.

Hurricane Helen Mental Health Support

The logo for Mental Health America, featuring the acronym MHA and an orange swoosh.Mental Health of America is offering free 24/7 Mental Health support to those who have been impacted by Hurricane Helen. Families can simply call or text their Disaster Distress Helpline at  1-800-985-5990 to receive immediate support.

  • Cabarrus County Schools partners with several different community agencies in order to provide the best services to our CCS students. These community agencies provide a vast number of mental health services with the goal of accessibility and equality for all CCS students and families. Cabarrus County Schools offers School Based Mental Health, as well partners with Turning Point Family Services to provide Day Treatment programs at Carl A Furr Elementary and CC Griffin Middle School. If you want additional information on these programs, contact your student’s school SISP department. 

  • During the 2023-2024 school year Cabarrus County Schools (CCS) conducted a Request for Proposal for School Based Mental Health (SBMH). We are excited to announce our partnerships with 15 community agencies that will support our CCS following a regional model. Below you see the SBMH agencies assignments for the 2024-2025 school year. Along with a link to each agency’s website. In addition to these agencies’ schools will continue to be able to make referrals to Atrium Hospice Palliative Care for grief counseling and Atrium Telehealth services (Atrium Telehealth Info Video). If you have questions regarding SBMH reach out to your schools Mental Health Contact. Please noted that school based mental health is to help assist with students exhibiting maladaptive behaviors impeding their academic day.

    Navigating mental health crisis can be extremely difficult and often feels overwhelming for loved ones.
